K&L Gates Grows Houston Office with Addition of Pharma and BioPharma Litigation Partner
Patel focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries and has extensive experience counseling clients on the various phases of patent litigation, with particular experience in Hatch-Waxman litigation. He has represented pharmaceutical clients in numerous litigations across the United States, and also counsels on matters including non-infringement and invalidity opinions; products for portfolio selection, including evaluation of potential launch dates; legal and regulatory challenges; and settlement and licensing agreements.
“We are excited to add a pharma litigator of Anil Patel’s caliber to our Houston office,” said Randel Young, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ Houston office. “Anil brings an exciting new practice to our office and to our U.S. and global pharma and biopharma practices with a roster of impressive clients. We look forward to him building his practice and being a part of the firm’s nationally and globally integrated intellectual property practice from a Houston base.”
K&L Gates’ pharma and biopharma litigation practice counsels clients in matters involving organic chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, biosimilars, and pharmacology before venues including U.S. district courts, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, the Federal Court of Australia, and the Unified Patent Court. Lawyers in the practice have represented pharmaceutical companies in more than 50 Hatch-Waxman cases over the past decade, numerous inter partes review proceedings, hundreds of opinions, and thousands of patent applications.
Robert M. Barrett, a leader of the firm’s intellectual property practice area, stated: “A couple of years ago, we embarked on a goal of developing a world-class pharma practice. Anil’s addition to K&L Gates demonstrates that we have come a long way in achieving that goal. We could not be happier to welcome Anil to our burgeoning global pharma group.”
Patel’s arrival follows the addition of several other new lawyers to K&L Gates’ Texas offices in recent months, with partners Adam Plumbley and Joe Regan having joined the firm’s Fort Worth and Houston offices just earlier this month and Zachary Ferreira also having joined the Houston office, all as members of the firm’s oil, gas and resources practice.
K&L Gates is a fully integrated global law firm with lawyers located across five continents. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
