K&L Gates Further Expands Investment Management Practice with Washington, D.C., Partner Addition
23 December 2015
Washington, D.C. - The Washington, D.C., office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Todd W. Betke as a partner in the investment management, hedge funds and alternative investment practice. He joins K&L Gates from Pepper Hamilton LLP.
Betke focuses his practice on commercial, legal, and regulatory issues surrounding private equity, venture capital, and hedge fund formation, as well as related acquisitions and dispositions of portfolio companies and assets. He has served as outside counsel to dozens of funds over the course of his 20-year career, and has extensive experience with the formation, regulation, and operation of varying types of funds, including Small Business Investment Companies licensed by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Betke represents investment funds with capital commitments ranging from $25 million to $750 million, and has served as general counsel to a number of privately managed, U.S. government-sponsored Enterprise Funds, overseeing more than $1 billion in public and private capital for investment in Central and Eastern Europe. Betke also advises clients on a wide range of transactions and corporate governance matters throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.
“With his extensive background in investment management and experience advising funds on investments, transactions, and other matters throughout the world, Todd offers a practice that nicely complements our leading investment management group, one that — like our D.C. office — has seen significant growth over the past year,” said David Case, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ Washington, D.C., office. “We are delighted to welcome Todd to the firm.”
Betke is the seventh partner or of counsel addition to K&L Gates’ investment management, hedge funds and alternative investments practice this year, following the earlier arrivals of Bruce MacLennan and Edward Dartley in New York, Richard Kerr and Kenneth Holston in Boston, Jacob Ghanty in London, and Michael Wong in Hong Kong. He is also the ninth new partner or public policy professional to join the Washington, D.C., office this year.
