K&L Gates Expands Global Patent Capabilities Through European Patent Office Offering
Combined with the firm’s already-extensive network of IP procurement, portfolio management, and litigation lawyers and patent attorneys throughout the world, the EPO practice allows K&L Gates to better meet the global IP needs of its clients. The launch of the EPO practice makes K&L Gates the only fully integrated global law firm to offer full-service patent capabilities to its clients in the United States, Australia, and Europe.
Chicago partner Robert M. Barrett, a leader of the firm’s intellectual property practice area, stated: “Some time back, we embarked on the mission of bolstering our global patent prosecution capabilities to include an EPO practice in order to better provide our clients with a truly global IP solution. This is an exciting milestone for our firm and we are very pleased to be the first fully integrated firm to be able to meet all of our clients’ IP needs on three continents.”
The firm has over 100 patent attorneys and agents – nearly 40 of whom possess advanced technical degrees, including approximately 20 doctorates – with extensive technical experience in virtually every conceivable field. K&L Gates is able to combine this vast experience with the requisite legal skills and first-hand knowledge and understanding of clients' technology platforms and business. As one of the leading IP firms, K&L Gates filed more than 1,750 patent applications in the U.S. and 3,500 worldwide in 2016.
K&L Gates is a fully integrated global law firm with lawyers located across five continents. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
