K&L Gates Co-Publishes Bankruptcy Guide for Advocates Representing Trafficking Survivors
K&L Gates, together with the Human Trafficking Legal Center, co-published “Holding Traffickers to Account in Bankruptcy Proceedings: A Guide for Advocates Representing Trafficking Survivors.” Aimed at assisting counsel representing survivors of human trafficking in protecting their clients’ rights in the event of a bankruptcy filing by a trafficker, the guide offers practical guidance on dealing with bankruptcy filings by trafficker-debtors, and addresses filing proofs of debt, seeking discovery, and seeking the assistance of the Trustee in Bankruptcy.
The guide was written by K&L Gates partners Phoebe Winder and Margaret Westbrook, counsel Stacey Gorman, and associate Emily Mather.
Winder emphasized: “This guide coincides heavily with K&L Gates’ Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative. We work in conjunction with the FBI to help survivors and bring awareness of human trafficking on a global scale. We are constantly handling pro bono work surrounding individuals with limited needs, so this guide will be able to offer convenience and assistance to counsel to further protect the victims’ rights.”
K&L Gates’ global finance practice integrates the many disciplines involved in financing and restructuring transactions across markets and industries. The team addresses the full scope of related regulatory, legal, and other issues that arise in complex finance transactions across industries, jurisdictions, and capital markets.
