James Chen is a partner at K&L Gates. James represents a broad range of clients, including multi–national corporations, private equity firms, and industrial companies based in Taiwan, China, Singapore, and Indonesia, in their cross–border mergers and acquisitions. He also represents issuers, borrowers, lenders, and underwriters in a variety of corporate finance transactions. His experience includes public offerings and private placements of equity, debt, convertible and other securities, export credit facilities, bank loans, securitization of accounts receivable, trade financing, and derivative transactions.
James has vast experience in the People's Republic of China (PRC), having represented issuers and underwriters in several IPO and B share listings in the PRC. He acted for foreign investors in the negotiation and documentation of more than 40 joint ventures and foreign wholly owned projects, including US$4 billion expansion projects for a paper manufacturer in the PRC.
Prior to joining the firm, James spent three years as a chief legal officer with a major Asian conglomerate in Singapore, and more than eight years in private practice with an international firm in its New York, Hong Kong, and Singapore offices.
James is recognized as an Eminent Practitioner in Capital Markets and as a leading lawyer in Corporate/M&A by Chambers Asia-Pacific (Taiwan) 2020.
